Important foods (and examples) to include in your diet for heart health:
- Omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, tuna, olive oil, flaxseed)
- Beans (black, kidney, red beans)
- Nuts (almonds, walnuts)
- Whole grains (brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta)
- Vegetables (spinach, broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes, red bell pepper)
- Fruits (blueberries, oranges, cantaloupe, papaya)
There are plenty of other heart-healthy foods to try! Find out which ones you like the best and make it a habit to eat them more often!

About a decade ago, Americans began enjoying the sweet, nutty taste of flaxseed. As a bonus, you get the protection from heart disease as a reward. Studies have show that flaxseed contains omega-3 fatty acids that appear to reduce the incidence of blood clotting. If you'd like to take advantage of this wonderful way to prevent heart disease, try adding flaxseed to:

•Cottage or ricotta cheese and fruit
•Yogurt or ricotta with a sugar-free syrup
•Smoothies and shakes
•Mix it into pancake or muffin batter, or other baked goods (you'll probably need to add a little more water)
